10 cool facts about being electrical….

Updated: 6 days ago

Having recently completed weekend three of my Functional Kinesiology Foundation Course where I was teaching about the ‘electrical’ realm, I wanted to look at why that element or component of health and wellbeing - us as an electrical being – is important. Because if you didn't know we are electrical.

COOL FACT NO 1: EVERY CELL IN YOUR BODY GENERATES AND CARRIES ELECTRICAL CHARGES

We are electrical beings. We run on ‘electric’. In fact, thanks to our electrical signalling, our nervous system can send and receive information through the body.

COOL FACT NO 2: ELECTRICALLY CHARGED PARTICLES ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR CELL-TO-TO COMMUNCATION

Within every cell there is an exchange between atoms, protons, neutrons. That whole energy exchange and process is electrical, and creates energy. It is our biochemistry - our cellular activity (check out cellular respiration) - that through a series of chemical reactions, actually creates energy.

COOL FACT NO 3: OUR BODY IS AN ELECTRICAL CONDUCTOR

Our skin actually provides a barrier (an insulator) to the ability and the ease to conduct that electricity, particularly when dry. It acts as a container to support electrical signalling inside our bodies.

When our skin is wet, then actually it conducts electricity better, and we can have that interchange, that particle receiving information, much faster.

Consider a damp wet day, where we've got a much more humid atmosphere, that information, those electrical charges, transmit much quicker, and you will feel things more deeply – think of being “cold to the bone” on a wet day.

COOL FACT NO 4: WHEN IT COMES TO THE BODY, WATER AND ELECTRICITY DO MIX! WHAT?

The body needs water to transmit our electrical messages faster.

What? Water and Electricity is good?

Yes! If you're dehydrated, it can slow that cellular messaging, meaning muscles don’t work as they should.

For example, when moving your leg, the messaging and electrical signalling impulse goes from the connective tissue system via the nervous system to the brain. Then from the brain back down to the body. If you are dehydrated, the message transmits slower and the movement is compromised. Food, emotions, thoughts, excess stress, tension and bracing all impact in the body’s ability to send and relay information cellularly.

[Please remember we are obviously NOT suggesting water and mains electricity should be mixed!!]

COOL FACT NO 5: THE HEART GENERATES AN ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD AND IT ACTUALLY REACHES SEVERAL FEET OUTSIDE YOUR PHYSICAL BODY

Our heart has to beat. That pulsing creates a field of energy, Nodes in our heart generate electrical impulses to stimulate it so that it beats. It provides stimulation 60-100 times per minute usually.

COOL FACT NO 6: YOU CAN FEEL YOUR ENERGY FIELD

If you bring your hands together slowly, you can often feel that electrical charge that pulse of energy. A little bit like the feel of magnets when you put the two positive ends together and they repel. Have a go at holding your hand out in front of you and bring them together slowly, you’ll feel the same resistance. (I think it feels squishy) Practices like Tai Chi, work with this energy and being electric.

COOL FACT NO 7: FLUCTUATIONS IN MAGNETIC FIELDS CAN AFFECT VIRTUALLY EVERY CIRCUIT IN OUR BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS

Everything that is electric generates creates electric magnetic fields.

Think about everything that is around you at the moment – your computer, phone, television, lights, your heating system, even other people or your pets.

All of these will be pulsing with energy and your body is receiving that information and it will have an impact on virtually every cell and circuits in your body.

Really? How might I experience that? Well, it could be that you walk into an environment and you think those lights are too bright – that’s too much information, it’s too intense for your system. Or it could be the noise, the radio, car horns, the hum of the fridge, whatever it is, it all creates shifts in energy and changes in our bodies.

COOL FACT NO 8: EVERYTHING THAT HAS ENERGY, HAS A FREQUENCY AND A VIBRATION

When we're in good health, and uplifted in buoyant moods, then actually our energy frequency is higher (see chart below) but we can have a trigger, or some ‘event’, that causes the energy to spiral down so your frequency is lower.

Think of that interaction of the energy fields. Think about the energy of other people you know. Being in the presence of certain people can buoy you up, give you a lift so you are both vibrating at a higher frequency.

Whereas perhaps a different person can feel quite draining. The lower frequency of the other person or environment can have an impact on you. If you’re claustrophobic or agoraphobic the environment energy - too much space, too little space – will have an impact on us.

COOL FACT NO 9: WHAT FIRES TOGETHER, WIRES TOGETHER

In talking about energy and movement, you’ve probably heard “Practice makes perfect”? Repetition embeds things in to your muscles and memory, you need to repeat, repeat, repeat, but actually practice makes permanent, not necessarily perfect.

When you're retraining or wanting to repattern in new, or better, movement with less strain and excess tension to the joints, then actually we want fewer lower repetitions. Because.....

The synapses that fire together, wire together.

Let’s say you spend a lot of time doing a simple movement, for example lifting your arm and to do this your shoulder lifts up, then the body/brain/connective tissue makes the connection - to lift the arm, use the shoulder – that’s the rhythm pattern to moving that arm - synapses that fire together wire together.

But what if that movement isn’t “correct” but perhaps compensatory to avoid pain? So, what we want to do is create and generate wiring that is effective, cohesive, and harmonious with the rest of our body.

COOL FACT NO 10: WHERE YOUR FOCUS GOES, YOUR ENERGY FLOWS

And finally, fact number 10, where you focus your attention, the energy is magnified. Our thoughts, our words, our actions, all have an impact on our health and wellbeing.

Remember you body hears what you say. Make positive statements about your progress towards a goal and remember the power of yet!
